Glitter tats have been creeping into the kits of face painters. To be honest I struggled with them at first but then through networking I found some easy tips to application and now they are a standard in my kit. Glitter tats can last for 4 to 7 days and endure exposure to water. That makes them a great alternative when it is hot or if you happen to be hired to work at a party where swimming is involved. I do not recommend doing glitter tats on the face as they are removed with rubbing alchol (91% works best). They are perfect for the arm, shoulder, ankle or back. Shown below are two methods - using stencils (easiest and fastest way and freehand.

Stencils

Stencils are the easiest and fastest way to apply glitter tattoos. I can't stress enough that it's important to remove any small pieces prior to adding glitter. This would be things like the eyes on a dragon or the nose on the skull. Some prefer to remove the entire stencil prior to brushing on the glitter. I have found it easier to do the former - stencil, glue, glitter and remove stencil. And I have found you really can not use the stencil more than once.

Free Hand Glitter Tattoos

1

Using a lip gloss applicator, apply the glue to the skin drawing a shape. The glue is white and will dry quickly and clear. You can also use an eyebrow pencil to draw a shape if you feel uncomfortable doing freehand.

2

Poof the glitter over the glue (once it has dried to a tacky finish). The other option is to dab the glitter on with your finger.

NOTE: you can also brush the glitter on as shown in the above clip.

3

Brush away the glitter and the shape you have drawn with your glue will pop out all done in glitter!

Tiger

Here's a quick sample of a little tiger. You can see from the picture that you build the colors one at a time.

Below is a video demonstrating how to do a simple palm tree. Remember that you can create actual shapes with the lipgloss applicator making the process quick and easy.
