I have had so many questions about using a face painting head that I thought I would share how I use mine. First of all, the paint will NOT adhere the same as real skin so the head becomes a 3-dimensional canvas to practice ideas and colors combinations on. I don't worry about the stains as I'm more interested in getting an idea before I take it to the 'real thing.' I have also used my head for my sample board when I just don't have any other choice. Shown below are my original thoughts on the left with the final version on the right. |

I was asked to create something tropical. Since I love doing masks, I decided to come up with someting along that line. |
Continuing with the tropical idea I decided to go for something different on the face. At first I had two palm trees but felt it was too much. I also decided to do away with the green lips. |

This design (LEFT) originated from a design I did years ago that earned me a "top ten" at FABAIC. It is a design that is requested a lot. However, my original design was very complex and took too long to paint making it not conducive to painting at festivals or where there are large groups of "canvases." So I re-adapted the idea with a more up-to-date color palette. After doing the initial on the head, I rethought the colors and the application of the flowers. NOTE: by spraying the head with hairspray prior to painting you'll cut down on the staining that often occurs. |
